Washington, D.C. and Fairfax — Restorative Dentistry and Smile Makeover Treatments

Across the United States, smile makeovers are gaining more and more attention. The transformations are simply amazing. Now, patients in and around the Washington, D.C. area can achieve their own smile makeover through the leading-edge restorative dentistry procedures available at Rye Smiles for Life. Dr. D. Gordon Rye has an outstanding artistic ability for repairing smiles that are damaged by broken or missing teeth and is known throughout the Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. region. With restorative dentistry techniques such as porcelain crowns, dental bridges, dentures, and dental implants, Dr. Rye can fully recover a smile’s function and beauty.

Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain crowns are frequently used to strengthen and repair cracked, broken, or badly decayed teeth. Fitting snugly at the gum line, porcelain crowns look and function just like the real teeth, and protect the remaining natural tooth. They also improve facial appearance and prevent shifting and overwork by the surrounding teeth. At Rye Smiles for Life, serving Virginia and the Washington, D.C. area, our restorative dentistry team uses porcelain crowns that reflect light to achieve a healthy glow without dark metal lines.

Creating a porcelain crown is a fairly simple process. First, a mold is made of the patient’s mouth; the crown will then be crafted based on the model, to ensure a good fit. Dr. D. Gordon Rye may have to reshape the damaged tooth to prepare it for the crown. While the custom crown is being made, patients wear a temporary crown. During a second appointment to install the permanent crown, Dr. Rye may shave away part of the tooth to make room before fitting the crown. Once the permanent crown is in place, it can last for many years with daily brushing and flossing, as well as regular dental checkups. Dr. Rye can often complete a full smile makeover with only the use of our high-quality porcelain crowns.

Dental Bridges

Unlike restorations that use removable appliances or partial dentures to replace missing teeth, dental bridges, often referred to as “fixed dentures,” are cemented in place. Crafted of porcelain (or porcelain fused to metal), dental bridges fill in missing teeth by attaching to crowns, dental implants, or natural teeth on either side of the unwanted gap. Creating a dental bridge requires at least two visits to our office: one to take impressions of the mouth and determine the type of bridge needed by the patient; and a second to install the custom-made bridge. Once installed, dental bridges can last five years or longer.

Dentures

Dentures have long been used to replace missing teeth, and today’s dentures are much more comfortable and easier to wear. At Rye Smiles for Life, dentures are custom-made to fit your mouth, face shape, and personality. Dr. Rye can craft a full set of comfortable and natural-looking dentures if all teeth are missing, or a partial denture or bridge if a few teeth are missing. Typically, partial dentures and bridges are either removable or are attached to surrounding teeth. However, through advances in implant dentistry, both full and partial dentures can be made more stable with the use of dental implants.

Dental Implants

For Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.-area residents seeking a dramatic smile makeover, Dr. D. Gordon Rye often recommends dental implants. Dental implants feel natural and secure, and are an excellent alternative to dental bridges. They offer a permanent solution for smile restoration by fusing artificial teeth directly to the jawbone. Dr. Rye can use an implant to replace a single tooth, or to restore an entire smile. Learn more about dental implants and the amazing restorative dentistry results our patients have achieved.
